President Droupadi Murmu visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, marking her participation in the world’s largest spiritual gathering. She took a ritual bath at Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, as part of her pilgrimage.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel welcomed the President upon her arrival in Prayagraj at 10 a.m. Security arrangements were heightened for her visit. After reaching the venue, the three leaders boarded a boat and traveled to the confluence, where Murmu offered food to migratory birds before taking a ceremonial dip in the sacred waters.
Following the ritual bath, President Murmu took part in special prayers dedicated to River Ganga. She later visited the Bade Hanuman Temple and the revered Akshayavata tree, both significant pilgrimage sites within the Kumbh Mela area. Additionally, she reviewed the Digital Kumbh Anubhav Center, an exhibition set up to enhance the experience of devotees and showcase the cultural and historical significance of the festival.
Murmu's visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela follows recent trips by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also participated in religious rituals at the event. Since the festival commenced on January 13, over 44 crore devotees have taken the holy dip, with millions more expected before its conclusion on February 26. Authorities estimate that at least six crore more pilgrims will visit before the festival ends.
The Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, attracts devotees from across the world, making it one of the most significant religious gatherings globally. The event continues to draw spiritual seekers, saints, and visitors, reinforcing its place as a key cultural and religious event in India.
